With all the Soviet style walk up apartments in Taiwan, the thing most unique about them is what people who own the ground floor do with their extra front space on the street. Some have shops/restaurants, some have gardens, some expand their living room, others use it to park their cars/scooters.
Sometimes if you're lucky enough you'll see one that has all these elements. Above is a picture of a small japanese restaurant in a small alley market. Their front space is their restaurant, car garage, and living room all together. Seeing it all I just couldn't help but have a happy smile and think "That's truly Taiwan"
