One Of Those Twenty Days

I often joke that much to the delight of most Taiwanese who hate sunny days, there are only about 20 days a year that are clear blue sky days. These normally come in July, and it's especially nice to go out on these days. Perhaps because everybody else is inside hiding from the sun.

These days also make for some great sunsets. I tried my best to capture one while on my way to go get some dinner. I was put to shame by some shots a friend took from his roof. I should have stolen one of his pics.

Days like this often remind me of my first apartment in Taipei. It was on the top floor so it had a clear view of the sunset as it would go to sleep behind the mountains. But this beautiful sight was always bittersweet as it also signified the time I had to go back to work to teach my evening classes.

Actually if I can tell one negative in a post about such a beautiful and peaceful sight. Is that sunsets come a little too early in Taiwan. Because of it's location geographically, there is only about an hour of difference in time between winter and summer as to when the sun goes down (generally sometime between 5:30 and 6:30). While the sunsets are beautiful, I wish that I had a few more hours each summer night before they came.
