Life Is Short

If you can recall Taiwan has the worst fatality rate for traffic accidents. I also mentioned that daily there are accidents in front of my apartment, with more than the occasional fatality. The picture above is of one such situation.

My camera is awful, but those lights are a group of police cars and ambulances. Perhaps you can also see that the ground is wet. It's yet another thing that makes Taiwan's traffic so dangerous, the constant rains coupled with the plethora of scooters on the road.

Meaning it can be easy for people's scooters to slip and fall over, and once on the ground...well...cars are on the road to and a bit easy to run over somebody who fell off their scooter.

Also it's common to happen at night. with less people on the road, cars and scooters go faster, and don't obey as many of the traffic laws. In fact my own accident happened late one night.

I don't know if i also told a story about the friend of a friend of mine who came over to Taiwan on a business trip, and just after arriving and checking into his hotel, he stepped off the curb and was killed by scooter.

There are a lot of stories like these, and unfortunately a lot of situations like the one in the picture. So yes life is short, and you should try to live it to the fullest. Granted this is easier said than done, but still seeing dead bodies on the road does push you to do a little more living and not put things off until tomorrow. As well as to not ride a scooter, and be super careful when walking.
Great shot!
