Taiwan is a culture where there most important thing for a woman to be is cute. I've spoken before about if a woman is called "smart" it's an insult. The goal is not to be elegant, or sexy, but rather is to look like a 12 year old child.
The lengths that women go to look so young are quite unsettling, whether it be surgery, or making the conscious decision to always speak in a childlike voice. However being cute can also be quite dangerous.
I've spoken before about how Taiwan is the most dangerous country in the world when it comes to traffic fatalities. Perhaps one reason for this is "cuteness." The law states that everybody who is on a scooter must use a helmet, but it does not regulate what kind of helmet. Meaning that most grown women will try to wear the cutest helmet they can find. These are usually very tiny pink ones, with hearts or other such designs on them. There are whole companies who make "cute" helmets which hardly cover the head, and the material they are made of offers practically zero protection. Some women will even wear children's helmets, which also are not very strong. Surprising because you'd think people would demand that children's helmets be the safest of all.
Well I think you can see where I'm going. With the amount of accidents that Taiwan has, and these tiny, flimsy helmets....Going off of anecdotal evidence alone, I've met quite a few women who suffer from severe brain trauma. Actually the most common thing to see are women whose faces have just been destroyed. Men usually wear the helmets that cover the face too, but women don't, so usually their faces get pretty smashed up when they hit the ground. Even after surgeries, you can tell, and a lot of women have fake teeth and if you ask why (if you ask, cause i would never ask cause i'm not as rude as you are) it's usually something to do with a scooter accident.
What can you learn from all this? Yes some drugs are bad, yes joining a gang can be dangerous, but if you really want to protect your kids, teach them not to be cute!
