Free Range? by taiwandaily

Free Range?

Thinking about ever going back to the states to live can be quite stressful. Mainly because there are so many ways that I want to live, so it's a challenge to find a place that makes that possible and affordable. One thing I always think about is that I'd like to only eat free range animals, that have not been genetically modified or injected with any chemicals. But it's a question of living in a place where it's convenient to purchase this kind of meat, as well as being able to afford it.

I've spoken before about how the Taiwan government doesn't like to give out much info, and how there really isn't any investigative journalism here. Meaning that there are many things we just don't know about Taiwan. For the most part this is quite frustrating and potentially dangerous, but yes sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Not knowing the conditions that my meat goes through, allows me to just decide that it's not as bad as the states and all the evil practices that animals are subjected to there. Granted I'm not naive enough to think that everything is free range and unmodified, but I like to think that there is some happy ignorant median between the two.

Of course sometimes it's hard to be so naive when you see chickens packaged into crates like this all morning long at the morning markets. Or the pigs being brought to the butcher shops that have what seem like eye brows in random spots all over their faces.
