I have a mantra of sorts which is that no matter what happened today, at the end of the day I'm still living in a foreign land on the other side of the world, and that not many people get this experience. Essentially meaning that yes things can go wrong each day, but if I take a step back and look at my life and situation, it's still pretty darn good.
Now I don't believe in luck or karma, but i must admit that I have been beat down a bit in Taiwan. Of course there are certain struggles and obstacles you must face being a foreigner, but even beyond that I feel that for the most part my luck has been pretty bad. Again while I don't really believe in luck, a recent situation illustrated to me just how much my view has changed.
A few months back i wrote a simple post about how i used to love the yoghurt covered raisins here, but how now they have made them "jumbo" raisins so the quantity of yoghurt to raisin is all messed up. Well about a week or so ago, I went to the store that sells them and I found that the original yoghurt raisins I like were in stock. At first i was quite excited, but as I was eating them I started to feel a bit scared. I felt that if this one good thing was happening, than it would mean that no doubt many bad things would soon happen to make sure that the odds are never in my favor.
Of course nothing bad happened and that day was quite a nice day. In fact most of my pictures from the past few weeks have been from that one day. However that split second thought showed just how much Taiwan has beaten me down in some ways.
As for the picture. Remember that outdoor pool I found and was so excited to go to since outdoor pools are not so crowded in Taiwan? Because of my schedule I wasn't able to go there recently and on a recent walk by, I saw that they are now closed since "summer" has ended. Nevermind that it will still be in the high 80s until January.
Although the note on it says that they are open in the mornings from 5 to 7:30. Granted this is subject to change and I'm sure the time I am up and ready to go swimming, it will have been stopped. But that's life, and while you can't control life, you can control how you take things. So i choose to make this motivation to find an apartment that is in a building with a swimming pool.
