But The Food Is Great

I've said it before, but about half of Taiwanese hate China. Hate it so much that even though they have never been there, they say they are ok to travel to any country in the world except for China. I've also mentioned that they are quick to claim all of Chinese history though. So in one breadth they can get pride from a famous Chinese person who invented something, and the next breadth condemn all Chinese people to hell.

But by far the most charming thing is all the stereotypes that Taiwanese say about China. They say it's dirty, the food is terrible, and the people are greedy. While Taiwanese say that they themselves are friendly and that the food is so special. It's charming because this is the exact same thing that Chinese say about Taiwan, they say that Taiwanese are dirty and greedy and the food is terrible. And Chinese say about themselves that they are friendly and the country has a lot of great food. Meaning that Chinese and Taiwanese are pretty much the exact same. Very sweet.

Anyway all this I've said plenty of times before, and while I cannot judge a whole country or people, I can say that one thing is for sure, China has some really great food. I still have dreams about the roast duck (Peking duck) that I had in Beijing. It was so good that I don't even have the vocabulary to describe it.

The sad thing is that I've been trying to chase that high for years now. Taiwan has some places which are "popular" for their roast duck, but in my experience they are all pretty terrible. But there are also regular "hong kong" lunch box places which have duck as well. For the price it's not bad, and seeing how prevalent they are, it always makes me wonder why we don't eat more duck in America. Here it's not different than having chicken or pork. Although beef is very rare here. So perhaps our beef is their duck. There's a joke in there somewhere, but I'm late for a nap.
