What Is Reality?

A sad part of living abroad is that there are some foods that forever reason just don't make the trip well. I've heard that with the high altitude and/or pressure on planes, some foods just can't handle it. There is nothing worse than really missing a food from home, and finally finding it in an small import shop, only to bit in and have to spit it out cause it just tastes off. I remember that butter finger candy bars always taste a bit off (more on this tomorrow).

But sometimes it's not just the flight, but the fact that something is recalled but it's never found out in Taiwan. A few places sell fruit loops, but they have been very terrible here for a few years. I thought it was something about the flight, as box after box has been bad, but then I decided to look online and it was a recall. Unfortunately this doesn't stop many shops from continuing to sell them.

All this comes together to really question my grip on reality. Sometimes I will get something and I will think "did it go bad? is this what it really tastes like and i just don't remember?" This just happened with this box of Cheerios. I usually get honey nut cheerios but as I am trying to cut back on high fructose corn syrup, I decided to switch to regular Cheerios. And...they taste horrible. It's like eating sawdust. But i can't remember, if that is what they originally taste like or not. Regardless, this is the first and last time I'll be getting them in Taiwan.

Also of note, you may be able to see that they cross out where it says lowers the risk of heart disease. For the past five years they have been doing this on boxes of Cheerios and the oatmeal that i get. I'm not sure if this is a Costco thing, or a Taiwan thing.
