Got Milk? by taiwandaily

Got Milk?

Many people in asia are lactose intolerant. I remember reading an article which actually gave some scientific reason for it. But as I'm a day late posting this, instead of trying to find that article again, I'm just going to cut to the chase.

Milk therefore is not a large part of most people's diet in Taiwan. I do know a few people who will get a craving for milk yet will only drink a tiny bit because if they drink milk they will get sick.

As you can see from the picture though, the lack of popularity of milk, doesn't stop people from buying it. In fact if you want to get milk from costco, you need to get there pretty early, because usually people will fill up the whole cart with milk.

The thing is i don't know what it's for. The obvious guess is a restaurant, but hardly any taiwanese dishes require milk. tea shops perhaps, but most tea shops use nondairy creamer. So where is the milk going?

As usual this could all be solved by asking somebody. I will put this on my to-do list, next time i'm at costco.
