Squat Tubs

Everybody knows that my enemy is the squat toilet. Toilets that are a hole in the ground and you have to squat over them. Well I don't think I've ever mentioned it's cousin the squat tub.

Most bathrooms in Taiwan apartments have no bathtub. They just have a shower head on the wall and you stand on the bathroom floor in the middle of the bathroom and take a shower. Yes, everything in the bathroom gets soaked.

If we're going in order of what bathrooms have, than next would be real bathtubs. Granted they are a bit shorter than what you are used to, but it's essentially the same thing you have in your bathroom. But the last option a bathroom might have is the squat tub. It's basically a bathtub that is have the length and one and a half the height of a normal bathtub. There really is no place to stand since it curves up on the sides, but that's not what you are supposed to do anyway. you are supposed to squat in the but while you hold the detachable shower head in your hand and wash yourself.

While I've had the unfortunately pleasure of coming across those squat tubs, i've never actually squatted in any of them. Usually I will just get sick of not being able to stand up properly, and just move over to the bathroom floor and stand there and take a shower.

The picture is about a possible alternative to a problem I face when finding a new apartment. While a westerner oven is not a requirement, a real bathtub is. For those few weeks each "winter" that it gets cold enough to take a nice hot bath. A few times I've had to reject some really nice places just because they didn't have a bathtub. Well yes, how nice could it be if no bathtub, so i think it was the location that made those places great.

But now with this monstrosity perhaps I can avoid this problem. Although slowly pouring the water out so it doesn't flood the bathroom floor and escape out the door, seems like one of the man pains of having this. then again for the few baths I take each year, it could be worth it.
