It's Own Type Of Women

I can pretty much say that Taiwanese women like western men, just as much as white american males stereotypically like asian women. But of course the reasons for liking western men varies. Usually it's just because of the stress and pressure of life here, so many people enjoy having foreigner friends because it's new and exciting and foreigners don't judge them the way that taiwanese do. It can also be because they just think foreigners are handsome. Also a common phrase is "i just want to practice my english" and while for some people this can be true, usually it's code for "i want to meet a foreigner but don't want to seem over eager about it." And of course there are those taiwanese who just can't stand foreigners and think they are a plague on taiwan.

There is one last group, those who really...cough..."want" foreigners. Usually these women dress a certain way, and really throw themselves at foreigners. When you see them around town each time it's usually with a different guy, usually a younger guy who hasn't been here long and doesn't know much.

These type of women have a special classification, we call them "a brass monkey lady." This is because they can usually be found at the place above, the brass monkey. it's a type of pub where a lot of "dude bro" expats hang out at. It's especially popular with recent arrivals as it's one of the few places to go to see NFL games. But when foreigners are here a bit longer and know more people and places they tend to stop hanging out here. That being said there are foreigners who do go here just for the "brass monkey ladies" who go there.

If you can tell from my tone, i'm not really a fan of this place. It has nothing to do with the women who frequent it, as if anything i happy when any taiwanese person finds their own special lifestyle that makes them happy. I dislike the place because the service is horrible. But I've also realized that it makes sense cause it's not really a place to be at for long, more of a place to go there for a minute, find somebody, and then leave. So the main reason I don't care for it, is because of the foreigners who go there. Usually those are the people who during their time here do things and say things that give all us foreigners a bad name. When I have an interaction with a taiwanese person and it's going poorly because of something another foreigner did to this person before, I will quietly curse the guys that are going to the brass monkey. Hmm, instead of talking about "brass monkey women", we should have a phrase for "brass monkey jerks."
and the whole time I'm reading this, I've got The Beastie Boy's song Brass Monkey running though my head.
