Sturts Stony Desert by terryliv

Sturts Stony Desert

Travelling north from Innamincka towards Birdsville, we entered Sturts Stony Desert. This desert covers and area of about 58,000 sq kms and this is a pretty good example of what it is like.
It was named by the explorer, Charles Sturt during his expedition in 1844 to find the inland sea he believed existed in the centre of Australia.
Not surprisingly, the surface played havoc with his horses and cause them to wear down their hooves and go lame.

Nothing, nothing, oh, one little tree. What possessed him to come out here?

What a lovely rich colour the rocks are, but such a huge open expanse of nothing. Amazing to see this.

Well, I had a preconceived notion that all deserts were sand. Great to learn something new. Good shot.

Rocks, rocks and more rocks. As far as the eye can see. Now we know why it was called that name. Great POV.
