Day 17 - Todd River Alice Springs 2

Alice Springs sits on the Todd River and believe it or not, this is the Todd River.
It is only rarely that the Todd has any water in it and the saying goes that you can't consider yourself a local until you have seen the Todd River flood three times.
Every year they hold the Henley-on-Todd Regatta boat race and in 1993, it became the only boat race in the world to be cancelled due to wet weather when there was actually water in the river.
If you Google Todd River Regatta you will get an idea of what it is all about or just have a look at the video clip at http://www.tourism.thealice.com.au/events/august/31-henley-on-todd-regatta-15-august-2015

Don't bother to comment - just telling a story.

We have now left the map at http://365project.org/terryliv/from-the-archiv/2015-01-07 showing our tour up to the start of Day 15.

See the background to this series of postings on the Kimberley at http://365project.org/terryliv/from-the-archiv/2015-01-08

It looks quite barren

Hard to believe this is a river. Where is the source of the river? Does it come from underground?

@pamknowler It rises in the eastern McDonnell ranges and "flows" through to Lake Eyre. Had to look this up Pam :-(

How interesting. There must be a lot of water at some time it is spans the whole width of this river bed, Although the banks don't look that deep so I assume the water is shallow.
