Eagles Nest by terryliv

Eagles Nest

Very early in the trip, I decided that one of my goals would be to get a decent shot of a wedge tail eagle.
This isn't it.

The nest was in a little dead tree and was only about 4 or so metres off the ground and right next to the track.

See the background to this series of postings at http://365project.org/terryliv/365/2015-08-12

If you view on black and look very closely around the nest, you will see heaps of little finches sitting on the branches and the twigs of the nest. I don't know what that was all about.
Nice shot Terry. Its on my to do list to get a good shot of an eagle from close up.A portable hide is next on the list.Finches may be looking for shade or somewhere to perch as there doesn,t seem to be much cover for them to shelter in.

The finches are very brave sitting so close to the eagle.

I would have thought the finches would be a ice snack for the eagle! Haha

I have always wanted to see an eagle in the wild and to get a photo of one would be the icing on the cake! Great capture! Looks a bit dangerous for those finches!

Nice find and capture. The finches are maybe gathering in force to attack the eagle.

Well, the bird does have a very eagle-like head profile . . .

Is that a little finch's nest in under the eagle's. The eagle looks very hot. Are the finches in to share the shelter and use the eagle for protection? Great shot giving us lots to think about.

I think Margaret may be right. It does look like a finch's nest underneath the eagle's nest. They are probably as safe as can be under there, as it is not an easy place for a large bird to get to.
