Zebra Finches at Montecollina Bore by terryliv

Zebra Finches at Montecollina Bore

Wherever you go in central Oz, if there is a body of water and a few bushes, you will find flocks of Zebra Finches flitting about and calling out with their faint high pitched beep, beep call.

I always find it amazing that such a small bird is able to survive and thrive in this harshest of environments.

These are the same little birds that Peter Grave @peterlgrave has been photographing from his hide in Charters Towers.

Oh how interesting - I never would have thought that these Finches would be in the Outback!

They are so pretty! When my father was in the re-hab hospital after he broke his back over a year ago, there was a glass enclosure of finches that I loved to study. My favorite was this kind, but I did not know until now that they are called zebra finches--totally fitting!
