OCOLOY Day 158: Port Louis Harbour by Night

I seem to favour night-shots at the moment and today is no exception: they are all taken hand-held at 3200 ISO and at f/2.8 or f/2.0 as this one was. This is the fishing harbour at Port Louis on the south coast of Brittany, taken at low-tide tonight. There is also a large commercial and pleasure harbour on the other side of town in the Bay of Lorient but I like this one best as it hasn't changed much since the early 19thC.

As usual, this image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile.

As usual, this wonderful shot looks extra special when viewed on black :).

Looks even better big on black - the night lighting has created a great contrasty b&w - my favourite. Amazing how little noise there is at 3200.

Awesome lighting, and nice on black!

Gorgeous evocative scene, I especially like the slightly ethereal patch of cloud. I want to breathe in the sea air. Fav

No doubt about it - you are an expert with night lighting! fav

Once again wonderful use of the night lights to create wonderful

you're really excelling with the well balance b&w's.

I like this and the previous one even more. But I am having trouble reconciling the timing - was this really taken at 10.57 pm? Was it a full moon?
June 7th, 2016
@laroque Hi Tim. Yes it was taken at 10.57pm and no, there wasn't a full-moon... in fact, there was no moon at all. The only light is the light that you see in the image - the four street lights on the harbour wall which you can also see reflected in the wet sand. The photo was exposed at ISO 3200, f/2.0 at 1/20 sec hand-held.

Well done for hand holding Richard, beautiful image.

@vignouse Something to try myself then, it should be fun. I do like these nightime shots of yours.

I've been very impressed with just how far you can push the ISO on the X100S/T. I guess that may be the case with the latest sensors for many cameras or do you find Fuji a strong performer in this regard?
June 7th, 2016
Excellent night capture and love the lighting on the buildings
June 7th, 2016
@jasperc You can push the ISO quite hard on F/F cameras I find but Fuji is the best of the APS-C sensors I think... the new 24MP sensor in the X-Pro2 is reputed to be phenomenal for low-light performance. We need to start saving up for the X200!

Love te light

VML the oily effect of the street lighting on the water. Its hidden depths are in direct contrast to the ethereal 'wave' of cloud in the night sky.

Nice shot! Love the light! The band of clouds and the water line help to keep the eye flowing amongst the lit buildings, which draw the eye back and forth :)

A stunner, Richard... love those reflections, they make the shot for me. fav
