This is in the old part of town, high above the the commercial district which developed along the banks of the River Charente.
As usual, the image is SOOC and is part of my ongoing OCOLOY project - you can read more about it in my profile. This is also for 'Square September' which you can find more about here - http://365project.org/discuss/general28377/square-september
Do you use 'style' settings within the camera? To alter contrast etc. I am always impressed that you get the tones so right and the contrast so suiting to the subject. And in this photo - no damned double yellow lines like you'd inevitably have if the shot was taken in the UK!
@littlequeenie Thanks for your kind comments - I positioned myself to avoid most of the inevitable road-signs (No Parking mainly!) and I did have to wait awhile for the street to clear of all traffic but it was worth the wait I think.
I have set my camera up to record Jpegs only in B&W and have selected a Red Filter effect and boosted the the shadow and highlight settings a couple of stops each to create high contrast images. I use these settings for every photograph and don't change them at all: image adjustment is done by changing the exposure and viewing the result in the electronic viewfinder... when I'm happy with what I'm seeing, I take the shot and it's uploaded as it comes off the memory card.

I love the contrast between the white houses and the black of the road, the eye is guided to the cathedral. Fav
