Greyfriars Bobby by 4rky

Greyfriars Bobby

Love the story of Greyfriars Bobby since I first learnt of it as a child which meant this statue to memorialise his loyalty was a must-see stop on our travels around Edinburgh.

Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye terrier who accompanied John Gray on his rounds as a nightwatchman for Edinburgh City Police. When Gray died Bobby kept watch over his grave for 14 years until his own death in 1872.

The statue was unveiled in 1883 and the inscription beneath reads: “Greyfriars Bobby – died 14th January 1872 – aged 16 years – Let his loyalty and devotion be a lesson to us all”.

One visitor has left a dog biscuit at his feet.

BoB!
Nice shot and history.

@chrisiow No. Sadly we had barely a day in Edinburgh before we had to catch the plane back in the evening and it was the only day that the weather was pretty awful: lots of fog, mist, rain and mizzle :(
Maybe next time!
