Fisgard Lighthouse, at the entrance to Esquimalt Harbour on Vancouver Island, was the first lighthouse on the west coast of Canada.
The lighthouse became operational on November 16th, 1860. The lens, lamp apparatus and lantern room were built in England and came out with the first keeper, George Davies.
The lighthouse is still in active use today. The shutters that can be seen around the lantern room from this side were installed when concussion from the 6 inch guns installed at Fort Rodd Hill artillery fort (where this photo was taken from) started to crack the glass on the near side.
I'm a British software developer and photographer living in Vancouver, BC. I mainly photograph landscapes, cityscapes, night scenes, and water.

@quietpurplehaze Sadly not, the lighthouse was automated in 1929. Probably safer for the boats, though!
@cameronknowlton I was there with my folks last month -- sadly didn't have much time for photography, and only just got round to looking at what little I did take. I've seen so many great shots from all over Vancouver Island though, I really need to get across on a photo trip!
