Decided to take a quick drive and get out of the city this afternoon. When I say quick, I mean it -- this is just 25 minutes drive (followed by a short walk) from my apartment in downtown Vancouver!
This was taken on the trail to Yew Lake in Cypress Provincial Park. Approximate altitude is 900 metres, and as can be seen, is well above the newly-arrived snow line! The snow was approximately 7-8 inches deep, with drifts up to about 18 inches.
With it being a weekday, the trail was almost empty -- I only saw one other person. The sound-deadening effect of the snow made it almost eerily quiet, the silence seeming to press against my eardrums when I stopped walking.
Not the best photo, it was overcast (and for much of the time, snowing) which made getting definition in the snow field difficult. However, it's a good representation of what it was like up there!

The benefits of living near the mountains! I am a huge fan of snow -- and LOVE this shot! I so understand what you described about the silence and snow. Well said! A fav for me!
