The Millers House
The Miller’s House (c 1704) at Rode Bridge was built for Henry Whitaker, one of the local mill owners in Rode, who also dyed garments.
The Mill was down by Rockabella bridge, not far from Millers' House.
The mill is supposed to be where the colour of Royal Blue originated.
King George III challenged the clothiers to produce a colour which was worthy of Royalty.
From Rode Mill came a very rich blue dye. This was chosen for a robe for Queen Charlotte and the colour was afterwards called Royal Blue.
