Shockoe Valley as seen from Church Hill

You definitely learn about your hometown when you give visitors a tour!
Church Hill is known as the site of Virginia's second revolutionary convention where Patrick Henry gave his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech in St. John's Episcopal Church. It is also known for Chimborazo Park, where the largest American Civil War Hospital was located. I took this from a look-out spot, situated next to Richmond Hill, an urban retreat center located in the historic monastery of the Sisters of the Visitation of Monte Maria.
Shockoe Valley is the site of the earliest settlement of Richmond and the first residential, commercial, and manufacturing development. Richmond architectural historian Mary Wingfield Scott proclaimed this area the “Valley Where Richmond Began.” The district takes its name from Shockoe Creek, once the western boundary of the original settlement. Shockoe is the Native American term for flat rock, in this case referring to the large flat rock where Shockoe Creek entered the James River.
Great view of the city

I have found that when I go to visit people and they show you around, they too, have not been to some of the places they take you. Cool sky on this one

It is fun taking friends on a tour. You often look at things from a totally different perspective and at a slower pace
