The Session in the Presbyterian Church USA is the governing body of an individual church. It is made up of ruling elders selected by a nominating committee and voted on by the congregation. Today as part of the worship service two elders were ordained and installed. As part of the process they answered questions posed by the Clerk of the Session, including an affirmation of faith and several constitutional questions. It is interesting to note that though there is separation of church and state in the U.S. constitution, the political structure of the U.S. government is similar to that of the Presbyterian church.
