Sports columnist and best-selling author of sports books for Middle School readers, Mike Lupica came to Collegiate for a talk and a Q & A session. Our 4th grade students of the Lower School were invited to join the 5th, 6th and 7th graders. I had prepared the students during their library period so 4th graders came to the program with an index card on which each had written a question for the author. What a thrill when some of them actually got picked to ask their questions!
Even though the plot of his books usually centers on playing football, baseball or basketball, Lupica told his audience his main focus is always on loyalty, friendship and teamwork. These are qualities important in your family, your classroom or your community, whether you play on a team or not.The students listened to his remarks enthusiastically. I think he made some new fans this afternoon!
