I invited myself to a special program for First Graders this morning, presented by the Richmond Metropolitan Zoo. The speaker not only brought snake skins and all kinds of feathers, but some real live residents of the zoo. Two were old hands at appearing before school children, but the parrot and the armadillo were first timers and a little hesitant. In fact the armadillo got the lay of the land and quickly retreated to his carrier, where he remained for the rest of the visit.
