Waiting for the NIghthawks

When I was birding in the northwoods of Wisconsin recently we went out one evening to a logging area to look/listen for Nighthawks, Woodcocks, and Whip-poor-wills. The bugs are pretty bad up there, so this woman in our group had her head net on. We did hear or see all three of the night birds mentioned. Birding takes you to some odd places, such as clear cuts, landfills, cemeteries, sewage ponds etc.
Glad it was a success. That is quite the gear she has on

Since I'm also getting into birding I do understand all the places you ladies are visiting. She was smart to cover-up the bugs are really pretty nasty, good for her!

I wish I'd had some of that when we'd spend time in the Colorado mountains in the summer - sure would make staying outside more fun! Glad you were successful.

She does look a serious bird watcher. I agree, we go to weird places & take shots in weird positions, but, isn't it fun!! Like your photo.

Great capture! Glad that you saw some birds. I have been using a similar hat because of the black flies in northern Maine, however, I still got 40 bits on my face :(
