Little Pied Cormorant by annied

Little Pied Cormorant

The Little Pied Cormorant is one of the most common of Australia's waterbirds, occurring on water bodies of almost any size. It is entirely black above and white below. The face is dusky and, in adult birds, the white of the underside extends to above the eye.
I had an absolutely wonderful day at the zoo today - it will surprise you to know I chatted to a number of people during my wanderings and took way too many photos - Have a great weekend everyone!
Great shot.

September 26th, 2014
Mice shot Annie. Love cormorants but never seen a pied one, or even a young black one, so double thank you for this.
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens I have funnily enough - blackbirds can be quite tough
September 26th, 2014

September 26th, 2014

September 26th, 2014

September 26th, 2014
@annied In hindsight I should have used the slow cooker
September 26th, 2014
Super capture. He looks as though he is about to take a leap!
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens oh you must when the meat is tough - and with those nasty types it is always tough
September 26th, 2014
@annied Not to mention bitter
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens yes I always add a little honey
September 26th, 2014

September 26th, 2014
@creampuff I see her every time I go to the zoo and always try to get some nice shots - I got a few good ones today - I liked the movement in this one
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower yes I will try and watch that game - I prefer AFL to NRL but don't closely follow either
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower my NRL Is West Tigers - from when they were Balmain Tigers
September 26th, 2014

September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower I thought you were veggie....
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
September 26th, 2014
@newbank @gigiflower she is a bit of a carrot
September 26th, 2014
@annied I'd thought more a peaNUT.....
September 26th, 2014
@newbank ah yes LOL
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@newbank @annied Yes I sure am! However you must make an exception on Grand Final Day when your team is playing! So my husband will have a meat and pepper pie and I will have 1 bite. I have also made both chicken sausage rolls and vegetarian sausage rolls. I will have the veggie ones..........but drool over the chicken ones because they are a Thai flavour! In my veggie ones I have carrot, potato, pumpkin, zucchini, mushroom and some squashed beans. They just don't taste the same as meat ones though! GO THE SWANS!
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower so why veggie if you don't mind me asking?
September 26th, 2014
@annied I've asked that before and I think the answer made sense but I cant remember it now....sounds like my veggie friend who eats bacon sandwiches...

@annied 30 years ago I just decided to stop eating meat. My parents were both English and Mum gave us chops and vegetables every single night. One night I came home and said "Mum, I don't feel like chops tonight"..........to which she didn't know what to do so I ate some carrot and celery that was in the fridge. Mum said if I didn't want to eat her meals then I had to learn to cook my own meals............which I did!!! However, 3 years ago I had a blood test and it showed that I was bordering on anaemic and very unwell. So after some trial and error around iron tablets and liquid iron, that didn't work my Specialist convinced me that I needed to try and eat some sort of meat (red/white/fish) because I was so sick. So I'm trying. But I only eat it if my husband cooks it because he knows the way I can stomach it! And it has to be on the bbq because I can't taste the meat flavour. And then it takes me about 10 years to eat it.........!!!!! My preference is to eat vegetarian only but my husband is nagging me to eat some type of meat because I am still very very low on iron (not anaemic anymore but still close). I will have a bite of his meat pie tomorrow and that will do me HAHAHAH
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower there are no veggie things that can supplement your iron - girls need iron you know? So it is the taste - must be difficult at times
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower you can hide the taste of most things with chilli and garlic hahahaha
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@annied I know, I know - now you are starting to sound like the Specialist that was treating me!!! Yeh I don't like the taste.....but am getting better slowly. I can now eat a bit of chicken that is covered in a curry!!! And I had some white fish the other night that we did in butter, lemon, garlic - that was quite nice! Oh yeh, I have every type of chilli sauce/paste in my cupboard :) I have a slow cooker and find that I can eat some meat because it is very soft and doesn't have a meat flavour! I have told my husband that 2015 is the year that I eat meat (red/white/fish) at least 3 times per week. *gulp*
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower Know that feeling very well. Off for my iron check up on Tuesday. Expect that is a reason cf flared up....been on and off iron tablets for years.... I tried really hard to up my meat intake too.
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower @newbank well just make sure you look after yourselves
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@newbank Those iron tablets and liquid iron did NOT work for me, thus the forced suggestion about trying to eat some sort of meat on a weekly basis. I'm truly trying! Maybe tomorrow, I will have 2 bites of my husband's pie!!!!
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower Make it three....one for me.
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower I assume they have mentioned the best foods to eat and how to best increase iron absorption? A quandary indeed
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@annied Oh god yes. I could recite which foods are the best and how they should be eaten - all with Orange juice due to the Vit C which is best for absorption! And guess what.........I truly hate orange juice!!!!!!
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@newbank That would mean eating half of the pie and that would be a stretch for me ;) But I will try!
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower oh dear - lemons?
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower now I do like orange juice but it still struggles to help....
September 26th, 2014
love it in b&w
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@annied LOL I don't think lemons go with weetbix (which have a very high iron content.....but taste YUK)!!!!!!

@newbank I don't!!!!
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower I love weetbix with warm milk and some brown sugar hahaha
I was thinking lemon juice and lemons with legumes haha not weetbix
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower @annied I pulled a very funny face. Weetabix is just concrete and cardboard by another name. That and lemons just would not be appealing to get out of bed for....
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@annied @newbank My favourite food is Kraft Peanut Butter SMOOTH. When I'm on death row and have my last meal that is what I'm going to ask for. On white bread. And I will then have some beetroot as my dessert. Oh I do love beetroot. What will you have on death row as your last meal?
September 26th, 2014
A bottle of wine and a burger and chips from Lord of the Fries
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower beetroot for desert? How? I like beetroot roasted....yum. peanut on white bread needs jam and needs to be crunchy.... Death row meal? My mum's beef stew and dumplings. Followed by chocolate brownie. Followed by cheese and crackers and grapes and chutney. And to start pate and toast and green salad. Then after dinner mints. How about you @banned
September 26th, 2014
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower what will you do that will cause you to be on death row?
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@annied HAHAHAHA I do like their chips but not sure about the burger!!! Red or white wine?

@newbank Oh yes, I can beetroot for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert. I just adore it - out of a can, or freshly roasted, or grated. I don't care.....I just love it. You sure would eat a lot for your last meal!
September 26th, 2014
@annied weetabix and love should not be seen in the same sentence.....
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@newbank I think I will kill one or more of my work colleagues. Violently. But we don't have death row in Australia so I guess I have to move to America.
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower if it's my last meal I might as well enjoy it!!
September 26th, 2014
@newbank @gigiflower I like white and red wines but probably one of my favourite whites
their burgers with chilli are yum
and chilli choc icecream for dessert
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@newbank I will eat a WHOLE load of white bread with peanut butter (smooth).

@annied I don't like sweets so I will stick with my beetroot for dessert!
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower I like beetroot but can't overdo it
although I have never tried - will have to give it a go one day
September 26th, 2014
@gigiflower I do love peanut butter on fresh bread abd on crumpets too
September 26th, 2014
Sam
@annied YUM to both Peanut Butter and Beetroot, but not together!
September 26th, 2014
aw shake your little tail feather
September 26th, 2014
Sweet bird! Great shot!
September 26th, 2014
@annied @gigiflower I have no idea what either of you are talking about. I often don't.
September 26th, 2014
fantastic shot Annie....cheers..
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens I often don't know what I am talking about eirherbut I am sure it is always very important and intellectual
hahaha
September 26th, 2014
Brilliant capture:)
September 27th, 2014
@annied That goes without saying, us intellectual types need to stick together
September 27th, 2014
@graemestevens we do - someone needs to discuss the need for and uses of a bazooka - the disposal of duckwits and hitsheds and when nakedness becomes nudity
September 27th, 2014
@annied absolutely. In fact, we should probably start writing guidelines
September 27th, 2014
@graemestevens I have read many serial killer type books and watch much forensic type TV so I am quite knowledgeable about disposal and what constitutes forensic evidence LOL
September 27th, 2014
Cool shot - love it in black and white!!!
September 27th, 2014
Nicely captured in b&w....sounds as though you did have a lovely time...and of course not surprised about the visiting with folks and photos taken.
September 27th, 2014
@kareenking @eyesmile thank you so much :) I always love the zoo and the weather was perfect
September 27th, 2014
I thought I had commented on this one, but maybe not. I am still brain dead after having Deb and the boys here and in need of catching up on sleep. Love this shot, he is so sweet. So glad you had a lovely day and chatting to strangers, I don't believe it ha ha.
September 27th, 2014
@onewing I know Babs - imagine me having a chat hahahaha
September 27th, 2014
I love the composition and the bird looks full of life.
