Am I hidden from the birds? by annied

Am I hidden from the birds?

Though centipedes inhabit almost every corner of the Earth, most people don't know much about the "hundred leggers." There are an estimated 8,000 species in the Class Chilopoda.
1. Centipedes are the only arthropods known to have "poison claws" for subduing prey.
2. Centipedes do not have 100 legs. Depending on the species, a centipede can have as few as 15 pairs of legs, or as many as 171 pairs.
3. I love centipedes
This one was hiding on the underside of a tree that attracts many birds - camouflaged in the bark.
Well spotted, very cool shot but no thanks. One does not like bugs overly much.

@graemestevens yeh such a shame many don't like them - they are so interesting - I did squish a tiny weeny caterpillar and two dendrobium beetles - all were eating my orchid flowers - that is a BIG NO NO!
September 25th, 2014
I never shoot bugs myself but I love this shot Annie!
September 25th, 2014
Nice millipede!
September 25th, 2014
@creampuff centipede Eve - LOL
September 25th, 2014
@kporte and what do you class a s a bug Keith HAHAHAHAHA
September 25th, 2014
@annied They are fascinating but that doesn't mean I like them any more...and Praying Mantis's's's's's (Manti?) just give me the heeby jeebies...
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens hahaha they are the coolest but I agree - like evil priests - they are quite creepy
September 25th, 2014
@annied Is there another kind of priest that you know of? I once had a priest try and tuck my shirt in for me...
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens I think many have tried that - now - you don't like bugs so I will leave the spider beetle and caterpillar for tomorrow - or later when you are asleep - so your choice - there are a few flowers - a curled frond - a rusty spring - a tree - a rusty grate and a fence???????
September 25th, 2014
@annied It's because I was so handsome I think...and don't you dare let me stop you from posting the photo you want to post. Good lord woman, this is a democracy that I'm running!
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens hahahahahaha no one could stop me you twat - I just can't decide and figured I would use and abuse you LOL
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens I was going to say duckwit but thought Twat more appropriate
September 25th, 2014
@annied ducking twat? Twating ducker? Use and abuse away...I'll just slip into something more comfortable...
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens you do that - and grab a wine - it might help hahahaha
September 25th, 2014
@annied You say that like I didn't already have one in my hand. A wine that is.
September 25th, 2014
I have to say "Nice Bug."
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens yeh - my bad - wasn't thinking straight - probably too busy sipping ( guzzling ) mine hahaha
September 25th, 2014
@annied Huh, "down in one" is my favourite way to get over the day as well.
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens oh dear agreeing again - whoops!
September 25th, 2014
This guy makes me shiver. I cannot get myself love it.
September 25th, 2014
@annied It must stop.
September 25th, 2014
@yaorenliu sorry to scare you
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens and it will - until next time
September 25th, 2014
@annied I'd agree with that but you won't catch me out again ;)
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens dammit - I knew you were to smart for that!
September 25th, 2014
@annied I'm not going for that one either!
September 25th, 2014
@graemestevens HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
September 25th, 2014
Sam
Did it get eaten by the birds?
September 25th, 2014
@gigiflower not that I saw
September 25th, 2014
Great shot, but you can keep centipedes thank you. We used to get huge ones which were about 5 inches long when we lived in Cyprus and they could make you quite ill. A friend of mine ended up in hospital when one latched on to her while she got dressed one morning, it was inside her tee shirt and she didn't see it.
September 25th, 2014
Fascinating! Not only an outstanding shot but, for me, an early morning lesson as well. Win-win!
September 25th, 2014
@voiceprintz thank you - I love bugs of all descriptions - my daughters spider collection is on a table a couple of feet away from me hahaha
September 25th, 2014
@onewing yes they can give a nasty bite indeed
September 25th, 2014
very nice!
September 25th, 2014
Had to look so hopefully the birds won't be any sharper in their vision! Clever shot.
September 25th, 2014
eeek!
September 25th, 2014
Love your information and also this lovely a-lot-of-legs-pede!
September 25th, 2014
Great to hear the info of these things - are they called insects - maybe bugs! I expect the birds eat them?
September 25th, 2014
Nicely spotted Annie but definitely not a favourite of mine :)
September 26th, 2014
So interesting. Thanks for sharing
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens @annied
I think the centipede is smiling. It must have read your conversations. I know I'm smiling.
September 26th, 2014
@bill_fe @annied I'm not bloody smiling anymore. I'm sitting in the corner sulking. Or possibly skulking.
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens @bill_fe I think skulking why would you be sulking lol
September 26th, 2014
@annied @bill_fe If skulking was an Olympic sport I'd probably have gold medals up the wahzoo...
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens @bill_fe
that would be painful I imagine so lucky it isn't
September 26th, 2014
@annied @bill_fe Yes, it seems like an awfully large medallion to fit up ones wahzoo...
September 26th, 2014
September 26th, 2014
@graemestevens @bill_fe Quick! Lube! Lube!

Great centipede shot. You spotted it well, but I wouldn't put it past a clever bird to find it too. I have a very vivid memory of watching my father fight off a centipede with a stick. It seemed like that centipede was over a foot long. He was chasing it off mainly to appease my mother and his three young daughters. I have since come to appreciate and protect these interesting and beautiful animals. Very nice.
