My rye sourdough starter looked like this, when I pulled it out of the refrigerator this morning (I feed/renew it about once a week when baking Danish rye bread)… I found it quite interesting to look at through one of my macro lenses, but usually it does not look like this. After a bit of research, I found out that my sourdough starter has a yeast infection - and unwanted one that is!
Kahm yeast is not harmful, but it can alter the taste of the sourdough, so I guess this one will go down the drain...
