Just checked how far south you lived Rob, I know a few farmers in the south do farm the NZ way but although a great way to farm we couldn't do it up here..too cold! A lovely scene & nice to see the cows out all the time...how do you think they fare in the winter as a matter of interest?
@happypat The ground is very chalky so it drains quick, the cows are not a typical dairy cow because they are Frisians crossed jersey which are a smaller harder cow and can cope with the weather. They are also fed silage after milking and cake during milking so they get the diet they need to produce milk. Also many farmers calve in February so they cows will be dry in dec and jan when the weather is supposedly at is worst and there's little grass about so the cows can't eat too much and produce a big calf. I'm no farmer though.
Lovely pastoral scene, a green and pleasant land!
