I picked up a very cheap RGB LED light that's made to replace an incandescent bulb in a recessed ceiling light fixture. It comes with a remote control, so you can set it to any color you want. I'm working on a couple of brackets so I can put it on a light stand.
How useful will it be for photography? Who knows, but my total cost for the unit plus the bits to mount it on a light stand will be less than $15, so it's no big deal. I'll get $15 worth of enjoyment out of it.
@k1w1 I got the light off of E-bay. Just search for "Recessed RGB LED". The one I got was ebay item number 302200468936. It's made to be wired to house AC for power. I just cut off the AC to DC adapter it came with and used a regular plug in 12v DC adapter.
A lot of the ones that turn up in a search on E-bay just have a ring of colored LEDs around the outside of a white light, you don't want that kind.
