...of poetry. from one of my very favorites, 'evangeline'. this epic poem by henry wadsworth longfellow is a story of an acadian girl (evangeline) and her search for her lost love. i taught this to my honors english students (many years ago!) and related her life-long drama to a soap opera--but it really is a beautiful tale. this story also tells of the acadians deportation from nova scotia. for a real-life photo of this location, see the link in the comments below from louise--i asked her to post it since i couldn't make it work! (:
*this is my only theme-related entry. i actually took the photo yesterday--before all the drama of our own with the tragic maiming of sweater dude...
Brett, your image above is lovely, and the poem so poignantly told about the deportation of the Acadians. I have close friends from southern Louisiana, and their relatives were amongst those who were ousted, so visiting that site was very meaningful in a personal way. So glad you found this lovely interpretation of the word, "lines"... Thanks for asking me to share!
@Weezilou i don't know what i was doing wrong, but i haven't been able to copy and paste the code to make it work! THANK YOU so much for posting the link to your shots--seeing the actual location makes the poem so much more poignant and 'alive'.
@pinktornado39 thanks for that link! i had no idea there was a state park commemorating that specifically! next time we are in new orleans we will have to make a trek down there. so cool!
and you're welcome. they were all hilarious!!
Lovely capture and idea for the theme! I will be teaching Longfellow to my students very soon....next week to two classes and in a few weeks to my other four classes. Love the capture of this poem!
I do love the poem, but it's been many years since I've read it. I was so excited when Louise posted the statue of Evangeline in Nova Scotia, I was able to see where her journey started and would love to see it in person one day. If you have notice my last name, yes I'm a full blooded cajun.
