The King of Desks

Spotted this at The Ragged School Museum and the desk belonged to its founder Dr Barnardo.

The desk was patented in 1874 and was designed to meet the needs of the small businessman and all the growing paperwork he needed.

As typewriters came into use they created more documents than the pen and squeezed the desk out of fashion. Production ceased in 1890.
