Apologies for the song lyrics title...clearly I haven't mastered capturing the moon yet but I still liked the mood of the scene. The hazy cloud was not shifting - at least not fast enough for the zero temperatures tonight and my insufficient layers, having come straight from work...any tips for future endeavours greatly appreciated!
Thank you all for taking the time to comment and to view my pictures in true 365 fashion - cheers me up in the morning and makes getting up nearly bearable :-)
Nice scene - I love the colours, and the brightness/darkness contrast!
Looking at the EXIF info, I see you went for 30secs exposure. That will rarely give you a clear image of the moon's surface, long exposures give you the nice oval amorphous white orb look you caught here!
For surface shots, you want a fast shutter - say 1/125. You aperture setting is good - you want a mid-range. And use of a tripod is key. You probably want a 200-399mm range zoom lens too. But that is if you want to photograph the moon's surface, close up.
Whether you got what you were seeking in this shot or not, there's still something extraordinarily beautiful about this scene.
(and yes, agree with @sixthblade , I'm told long-exposure is not the way to go for crisp moon shots:)
This is great B! I love the shine and shimmer with the clouds - that colour is lovely. I tried to get a similar shot on the way home on Tuesday as I loved the corona in the clouds but all I got was a fuzzball. This is beautiful, and you got Jupiter and stars too - fantastic!
Wow look at this shot, it's amazing, I love the moonlit reflection great capture.
One thing to keep in mind it is day time on the Moon, you need day time settings, to capture detail.
@sixthblade thank you so much for the lovely comment! And thanks for all the advice!! Have put some of it to the test tonight and am quite pleased with the result for my first proper moon close-up :-) Thanks for sharing all that knowledge!
@adeakinyede One of my faves and it always makes me think of wintry scenes, so couldn't resist it :-) Glad you like the shot! Thanks so much for all the comments!
@cybelle Thank you so much for the fav!! It started out very different in my head and I wasn't sure about it initially, but I really like the atmosphere of it now.
