Takahe by brigette

Takahe

While on Rotoroa island i had the privilege
of seeing several Takahe. They once roamed across the South island but after being being presumed extinct for about 50 years they were famously rediscovered in 1948. Since then efforts have been made to protect them. My camera has a fixed focal length so i could only get so close by stealth!!! hence these photo's may not be the sharpest
Nice to see this unusual bird!

It is so good to be able to see these neat birds roaming around on a predator-free island.

A fabulous shot of this beauty! It looks a lot like our purple swamphen.
