A better shot of Weatherly and Dorade. Weatherly won the America's Cup in 1962 with Bud Mosbacher at the helm. The Zeiss Super Ikonta suffers some from a lack of contrast and the images benefit from adding it in post processing. The lens is quite sharp!
Oh, beautiful memories and a lovely composition. I think that the soft lens is not a disadvantage but rather an advantage. You have a broadened spectrum of action, and sharpness is paramount.
@jgpittenger@milaniet@haskar Thank you! Yes, it is hard to compose in marinas. The compositions are often very busy. This camera has limitations on close focusing, complicating things further. I believe this was shot at F 5.6, probably the sharpest aperture of the lens, a Zeiss Tessar lens from 70 years ago. This camera is quite a technical marvel having a stop in the advance for each frame, where other old folders have a red window for observing the frame number on the film's paper cover. It also has a coupled rangefinder as opposed to many others that are strictly range focusing. From this image, it appears the rangefinder remains accurate after all this time. The shutter speeds are slow so one has to compensate with aperture or shutter speed. Metering is a "best guesstimate" after taking middle gray with my iPhone meter, and with film overexposure is preferred anyway. I developed the roll in Rodinal using a method recommended by Simon King, a great film photographer. I love the experience of using old cameras - today's technology is great but sometimes, "too great"! It was a fun experience for sure.
