It was fascinating for me to watch this Great Egret in the swampy/marsh area of a nature park in MN. I havent seen them up close before.
It would stand perfectly still, then strike quick, and come up with a frog, or fish. Which was swallowed in one quick gulp!
This was off the nature trail, and I had to walk through thick brush and stand behind a tree. Initally I was trying to photography a pair of wood ducks, but they saw and heard me and flew off. Kept walking and came upon this bird.
When I got home I realized my hair and jacket were covered all over in those prickly cockleburs, that stick like crazy. Totally worth it. :)
Wish the lighting was brighter, but it was evening.
Wow. What an adventure. Worth it for this photo though. And it's nice to know that until just a few days ago, you've lived a life entirely, with no egrets. Well, except maybe those wood ducks flying off. ;-)
@wendyfrost thanks Wendy. My daughter thought it was eating a frog, I say its a fish. But I was still too far away to have it be clear when I zoom in the photo on the computer. (can't wait til I can invest in a longer lens :) )
@lynnz Thank you Lynn. This project has pushed me to be more creative and go looking for a photo. I do have to say it helps to always have my camera with me. I use to miss a lot of photo ops.
