Or I should say, maybe I was the lucky one?!
This was taken after I nearly hit the deer with my car when I came over a hill. I slammed on my brakes, honked my horn - barely missing her. She ran quick across the road, and then stopped along the edge of the trees, turned and stared over the tall grass at me - for a couple minutes. (long enough for me to grab my camera, switch lenses, and snap this pic).
I have actually hit a deer (or a deer hit me) with every vehicle I've ever owned, excluding the one I have right now (knocking on wood).
This one looks like mottled colors. A whitetail's coat changes, it can be reddish brown in the spring and summer and grayish brown in the winter, helping the deer be camouflaged year round.
David hit a kangaroo once when he was driving my car and it caused $3000 worth of damage.
