Here's where I spend half my time at work. The other half I spend behind lead glass windows setting up and operating the computer for patient's CT scans ( cat scans).
I certainly don't like being in one as I get claustrophobia. When I had back problems, I seemed to have been in a very narrow one for ages! That is about 30 years ago!
I remember when I first started working on CT scanners in the early 80's. It took a half hour to do a head study and near an hour to do chest/abdomen. Now it takes longer to get the patient on and off the table than to do the study. Amazing how the technology has progressed.
Thanks everyone for all the comments. They technology keeps getting better, and never ceases to amaze me.
I went to school for travel services ( think travel agent, tour operator, etc... ) but after almost 4 years just making a bit over minimum wage - the place went bankrupt.
(not because of me, hahaha). Anyway, our paychecks had bounced a few times, the company didn't pay in our social security ( although it was taken out of our paychecks) and our insurance was dropped!
Needless to say, I decided to go back to school then - for something with a little more job security. I figured people end up needing medical care whether they an afford it or not. S0 - I've beed a registered CT technologist for 18 years now, it's always interesting, that's for sure.
