Church of St.Peter and St.Paul,Abington Park,Northampton by carolmw

Church of St.Peter and St.Paul,Abington Park,Northampton

Known locally as the Church in the Park,it was built over 800years ago,as a place of worship for the inhabitants of the manor house and estate workers and their families.
The manor house is now Abington Museum, and the church is still a place of worship for the local area.
The families ,who owned the house, are commemorated in the church e.g.Sir John Bernard and his wife,Elizabeth Nash(who was Shakespeare's granddaughter),and William Thursby,a barrister and M.P.for Northampton.
The carved wooden pulpit is believed to have come from the workshop ofGrinling Gibbons.
What a nice old church and a lovely location, interesting facts too Carol.
