The city of Richmond, where I live, is situated on an island in the mouth of the Fraser River. It is barely a meter above sea level and because of that has 50 kilometers of dykes and 30 pump stations to protect it from flooding and ocean surges. The dykes are a favourite of cyclists, joggers and walkers because you can go for miles without worrying about traffic. To the left of the cyclists in this shot is a tidal marsh and beyond that but out of sight in this image, the ocean.
