We seem to be coming across fiestas all over Malta. Last week it was where we are staying. This week in another town. All the statues are amazing but I realised that this one was of Pope John Paul's visit. The likeness was excellent. I've never seen such ornate plinths and statues. They are even more colourful than those in Spain.
@atwinfay No, they are put up, together with all the banners and flags the day before the festival starts. They are obviously kept somewhere and maybe hired, I'm not sure. Each town seems to have dozens of them for a week. The plinths are wood decorated to look like marble and the statues are plaster. There are huge chandeliers which work too.
I'm really enjoying this holiday in Malta.
