These headdresses have a completely different meaning in Spain from those in the USA.

Even with a different meaning they still look quite intimidating.

Where's this? We had a fantastic week's holiday in Andalusia. My only and big disappointment was that we went to watch the Malaga 'procession' and had to leave after we saw the first 3 statues. But we watched most of the rrst of the procession on tv later in our hotel room.

@sangwann This is in Denia. Half way between Alicante and Valencia. About 5 to 6 hours north of where you were. The parade started at about 10.15 pm. It was only a small one from one of the churches. I'm told there was a bigger one on Sunday when all the churches got together. We didn't go to that one as we were busy elsewhere.

@onewing @pennystot @susiemc They are penitents , who traditionally could repent of their sins but still remain unknown. Now each group has a different colour cloak and head dress . It's all very religious and very quiet( apart from the bands playing solemn beautiful music .)
