Each Falla has a little one next to it.

These little ones , sometimes called the children's ones , are burnt first ,apparently to check on which way the wind is blowing so that when the large ones are burnt about half an hour later the bomberos know what to expect. Buildings nearby are hosed down with water just before each statue is set alight. The noise of the firecrackers first is deafening!
It seems such a shame that they all get burnt after all that work.
