2021-04-26 Goodbye To All That

Home for the last 6 years! Off we go...
where to?
April 28th, 2021
@kali66 Well, technically it's home because it's where I'm from... but I've lived in Japan longer than anywhere else. Back to Ireland for a few months then off to Yorkshire. Somwhere as yet undecided...!

i will miss your Japan photos, best of luck for such a huge change

@kali66 Thanks! There will still be Japan photos on my instagram for a while at least, and I'll be posting about a few trainlines up until the end of the year. I hope you'll enjoy the new views.. once I get out of quarantine.

Leaving "home" is never easy -- and I will mis your Japan photos, too!! And how is it that six years is the longest you've lived anywhere. You are more nomadic than I am! Ireland is high on my list of "why-haven't-I-gone-there-yet" places. I was supposed to go a few. years ago and life changed dramatically for me so my friends there are still waiting fo me to visit. I'm looking forward to Ireland photos, too. Yorkshire?

@jyokota oh Japan is closer to two decades(!) I'll see what I can do about Ireland and Yorkshire photos once I'm allowed out of the house!

Oh, I see -- six years here, but closer to two decades in Japan. That makes more sense as you seem to have much more of an insider pulse than six years there would afford. You lived longer in Japan than I did! I left the first time when I was 15 (foreign exchange student) and only returned for a year before leaving permanently. I now only go back to visit family. And for work. Oh, yeah, and the 20 teens I travel with.

@jyokota Wow - sounds like a reverse version of my existence...!

@cityhillsandsea Women have fewer options about their lives in Japan than in the western world.

@jyokota oh I know. It is changing but at the usual speed that things change in Japan... women are still seen as wives & mothers first for the most part. It's quite sad.

@cityhillsandsea I felt I had to make a decision -- be a wife/mother or have a career. But not both. And always serve tea and wash the tea cups. Funny but my mother got a job at a Swedish company in Japan as the executive secretary for the Swedish boss who made it clear she was NOT to serve tea, wash teacups or do anything that took her away from her duties as his lens to Japan, the company, etc. so she had a western job in Japan.

@jyokota I like that Swedish boss! I've always found the expectation that women bring you stuff in the workplace... really really weird. Sounds like you and your mum did okay though!

@cityhillsandsea I feel fortunate to have had choices. But all of life is full of choices made and given up, right? And now, you are starting a whole new/old life.

@jyokota Certainly another chapter or two, yes!
