I took some pics of a caterpillar on a thistle yesterday. I wanted to take some more today, but I couldn't find it. Then I saw this! It had made a chrysalis last night. After a little research, I found out this is a Painted Lady chrysalis. Painted Ladies are also called Thistle butterflies. I will post a pic of the caterpillar from yesterday in my extra album.
I took a brisk run through the hayfield this morning! I was inspired by a large black snake!
Thank you for your lovely responses to yesterday's butterflies! :0)
@robv@aj1268 I don't think it's a spider web. I'm fairly sure the caterpillar did the webbing. I saw another pic of a painted lady chrysalis with this same webbing. ;0)
@cjwhite Yep, been awhile since I reared Painted Ladies but I do recall a lot of webbing on the Malva they use as a host here. Been spending too much time on macros of spiders......... Nah, not really. Kinda like those eight legged cousins of my professional and personal obsession the insects.
I got an adult yesterday — http://365project.org/rhoing/365/2012-07-09
