Tadpoles by daffodill

Tadpoles

Nothing is ever as straight forward as you think it should be!
In our garden is a small pond, and it is not unusual to see a frog somewhere in the garden. A few weeks after the thick ice melted in the pond, we were aware of some froggy activity. At one point there were 10 frogs in the pond, and the only result was one drowned female, so for a time I did wonder if we would have any tadpoles this year. Last year our small pond had hundreds of tadpoles, that seemed to take ages to develop and seemed to diminish in number perhaps due to the presence of newts within the same pond.
Eventually 3 lots of frogspawn appeared, and disappeared into the murky depths of the pond.
A few weeks later the odd tadpole appeared! :)
Gradually over the last week or so, more and more have been appearing near the surface. Here is a shot of some of them, enhanced by the presence of a stray feather...
Nice capture! Tadpoles are really fun to watch develop.
