We went to brunch with some friends today at a golf course. Outside was this magnificent old Banyan tree. Out west, where I live, we don't have so many Banyan trees since they are not well suited for neighborhoods. They are well known for their aerial roots. I suppose I have never been close enough to realize this roots are braided. It was very interesting.
The first Banyan tree to be planted in the US was by Thomas Edison in Ft. Myers. It was 4' tall when planted and now covers an acre of land!
There are many banyan trees in my neighborhood and they are delightful. You really took an excellent shot, since it's difficult to look for perspective with these big guys.
Wow! That's really amazing! I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. The information is really interesting. Imagine, starting out 4 feet and ending up taking up an acre of land! Mind boggling!
@marlboromaam@lynnb@pjonas@clmiller@daisy@bardejov@dreams@eyesofbetsie I greatly appreciate all the remarks. They are very fascinating. I'm glad you enjoyed it! @anazad511 You probably have amazing ones all over your area. I just chose a small section of this tree in order to showcase how th roots knit together. I had never noticed.
Such an interesting tree... I have seen the one at Edison's home in FL... amazing growth habit... there are none in the mountains where I live... very nice close-up!
