Ocala is certainly horse country. 14 of the horses in the Kentucky Derby this year were born or trained in Ocala. As we were driving around, we noticed this new subdivision with the gate open, so I took advantage and photographed this beautiful fountain. The gate had closed behind us, so I was glad we were able to get out!
Since I took this while on a mini-vacation, I will use it for today's word of vacation (how I wish I were on a longer one!).
My grandson loves horses. When he was visiting us before his move to Florida a friend of ours told him about a place around the Panama City area that had a lot of horses. She told him maybe he could get a job working at the stables.

Ocala competes with Lexington, KY as the Horse Capital of the World for a number of reasons but the main reason is the type of soil, known as #8 soil. Horses thrive on this kind of soil and it is mainly found in the NW area of Ocala, where I had my house!
