We went to see the manatees at the power plant. They gather in the warm water during the winter months when the regular waterways are cold. They are rather odd looking creatures, also called Sea Cows.
Be sure to go slow with your boat in manatee areas. They float on the water and often have propeller scars on their backs.
Thank you all for your comments. The water was murky. One day maybe I will get up to the springs to see them. Recently, there were 300 of them in the springs, since the water is a constant 72 degrees. They are funny little creatures, sticking their snouts out of the water. They remind me of elephants a little, or pigs even. They really just float on the water and eat. We don't much see them in my area like this because the power plant closed down. It was nice to see Tampa Electric set up a very beautiful free area to view these creatures during the winter. They even had employees out directing traffic.
That's great that they provide this. What a Seussical cutie. My stepdaughter did one of those manatee snorkeling tours somewhere, and her photos were fascinating.
